India, the country called so by the western people, is Bhaarath.
Its name comes from an ancient legendary ruler named Bharatha, a great philosopher and the celebrated son of Rishabha. Many people confuse this name with that of another king of later ages, son of Dushyantha and Shakunthala. In still earlier ages, this land was known as Ajanaabha, again after the name of a ruler named Ajanaabha or Naabhi.
India is the birth place of many languages -like Samskritham- and many cultures varying widely among themselves but having a predominat unifying thought and uniting force underlying all.
For the material oriented west, this country may look like a place of snake catchers and dancing girls but the treasure of thought and culture it delivered to the world is felt by few.
Current day India is a just a bone among fighting dogs, given its poor political
leadership.
"We bow to the cuckoo of Vaalmeeki that rests on the branch of poetry and gives out the sweet cooing of the beatiful sounds of "Raama" , "Raama" for our pleasure. "
